Philosophical Novel within Chinese Cultural Context: No. 99 Cross Boulevard

Last updated on October 25, 2024

In essence, my first novel, “No.99 Cross Boulevard”, is a philosophical and contemporary fiction piece exploring the meaning of life. It is a tribute to the great philosophers Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Friedrich Nietzsche.

It serves as a memory of generations within a unique cultural context by providing a glimpse into Chinese society between the 1970s and late 1990s through the stories of ordinary individuals.

From a literary perspective, this fiction follows a “stream of consciousness” narrative mode to depict the heroine’s thoughts and feelings about love, life, and death during her half-day work at McDonald’s. The blending of memories and reality reveals the growth of her mind.

This novel has the potential to inspire many people, particularly after the global pandemic.

This is my first novel published in 2006. I wrote this fiction in Chinese before I came to Australia.
